Welcome to the Mendon Country Inn, the historic halfway point between Detroit and Chicago, merely two and a half hours from both cities. Our guests can enjoy the ambience of a historic stagecoach inn, with nine standard antique rooms each with their own private bath. Or pamper themselves with one of our 9 jacuzzi fireplace suites. Whether you choose to stay in the historic inn, or the Innkeeper's Cottage suites, you have the opportunity to enjoy our 14 acres nestled on the Little Portage Creek and St. Joseph river. Sit by the rapids on Serenity Island, or relax in the garden. The Inn boasts a canoe dock with 10 kayaks, 21 canoes including a fishing canoe for the outdoors man. For the romantic guests, we have a unique romantic canoe to facilitate an afternoon on the Heritage Water Trail with your loved one, complete with a French Country picnic for two. Old fashioned board games, videos, books, croquet, and sauna are all available for our guests.
Area attractions include: Self drive Amish tour taking in our 11 unique Amish districts, drive the Triangle antique tour, or visit a state of the art winery just 15 minutes from the inn. Mendon boasts the delightful Sentiments antique mall with it's very own chocolate counter and coffee bar with an old fashioned atmosphere as well as the elegant Bistro Rio overlooking the St Joseph River, You can take in a quick glass class at the Stained Glass Studio, or enjoy looking at vintage kitchenware at Serendipity antiques.
In St. Joseph county there's always a lake or river near by as well as a championship golf course or two and local horseback riding.
The inn also boasts the Wakeman House Dining Room, where Chef Gerard crafts an evening of culinary delights you won't soon forget. our winter weekends begin with our 1850 Tavern Dinner experience and you have the Saturday to work up your appetite to enjoy the delights of his International Dinner Buffet. You are sure to have a dining experience like none other. The dining facilities are open to guests and by reservation only, so be sure to let us know you are coming. We are available for Christmas and business gatherings, so feel free to call to reserve dining for the perfect special occasion, small or large get together, weddings of all sizes and any other function.
